The Mini-Butterfly Reliquary

This series was created using the bottom of a large Dominos Pizza box. A template was used  from a full-size pizza box to create a miniature version. Each box  interior contains a flower object made with cardboard, Dominos stickers and a hand drawn butterfly on top. It is visable through the open arch on the front of the box.

There are 27 unique pieces in this series in various color schemes, including: black/red, black/purple, black/yellow-green, black/pink and gold with checkerboard tape. Each work is  6 x 6 x 1 inches, priced at $225.

Checkerboard Landscape Series

This series also utilizes laminated (glued), layered pizza boxes. The center of the pizza box shaped object is cut out in a long horizontal. The first layer is one inch red squares, glued down on black arches paper. The next layer is white silhouetted figures, then butterflies in neon green. Raised above the figures is a grid of green metallic thread, creating a shadow on the surface of the figures. The front cardboard is painted gold with checkerboard tape surrounding the landscape like a matte. In the lower half of the frame is a cut out circle with a hand drawn butterfly raised to the and surrounded by a red circle.      

There are 7 unique pieces in this series. Each work is  17.5 x 18 x 1 inch and are priced at $300.

Icon Portraits - Custom!

Here are some examples of a custom project I am working on for the Dominos Upcycle project!   I will do a custom "posterized" (black & white) image of a family member, son, daughter, Mom or Dad!

The work is made from a pizza boxes spray paint, checkerboard tape and ink. There is a clear acetate front to protect the interior from dust. The work can be hung directly on the wall or be mounted within a shadow box frame!

Below are two images from my self-portrait and one already sold, "Adana." The colors and the background will be the similar, but no two are alike!

Emerging Butterfly

In this piece I used laminated cardboard (glued) in varied thicknesses to create the three-dimensional butterfly. The body, legs and probiscus were cut out of the cardboard and assembled. The wings are made from sandwich wrappers, spray painted and then coated with high gloss clear coat to have the appearance of being wet. The cocoon is constructed out of clear vinyl and rests on a gold painted cardboard top. The cocoon is mounted on a stand and the butterfly is connected to the stand and cocoon via a dowel. I want this sculpture to look like the butterfly has just emerged from the cocoon and it is resting, letting its wings dry!

This is a one-of-a-kind, unique piece. It is the only artwork to be produced in the Dominos Upcycle project and is priced at $500.

The beginning…

The Domino's Upcycle project has begun! Domino's recently changed their logo, and rather than throw all of the old ones, they've asked independent craftsmen and artists like me to upcycle them into creations like this one. My goal is to transform these materials into something creative, different and interesting. Stay tune for a series of artworks that are made out of cardboard, paper, fabric and plastic!
